French paste is a Vintage jewelry term used to describe the practice of using faceted cut glass, cut in the shape of a real gemstone, instead of using real gems. This process, which was developed in the 1700's, created the look of a sparkling gemstone or diamond but cost much less than real stones.
A stunning pair of French paste clip earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! These dazzling earrings feature gorgeous round crystals that are beautifully faceted on the front and back. Each earring has a spectacular cluster design with a halo of smaller stones surrounding the largest stone in the center. All of the crystals are belcher set in sterling with a closed back. The facets give the earrings a fabulous light-catching quality that closely resembles the real thing! They fasten with a pair of secure 14kt gold omega clips on the back, allowing them to be worn on pierced or unpierced ears. The earrings would look gorgeous worn on special occasions and would make a wonderful addition to any Victorian collection!
Measurements: Each earring has a 3/4" diameter and is 3/8" thick at its thickest point.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting or gold clips, and all of the paste stones are intact and securely set.
