A fabulous onyx locket/pendant from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This unusual piece is rather substantial in size, and consists of a solid onyx plaque that is carved into the shape of a shield. Riveted into the center of the plaque is a three-dimensional gold button hole design. Two 15kt gold rings are connected by a hammered gold link that appears to thread through them, creating an interesting visual effect. The back of the onyx shield reveals a removable gold framed glass locket, which is a perfect place to store a special photograph. At the top of the piece is a complimentary fluted gold bail, allowing it to be easily hung and worn from a favorite heavy chain. A magnificent and unusual piece from the Victorian era, it has a very striking look and would make a unique addition to any collection!

Measurements: The locket hangs approximately 2 1/2" long (including the bail). The onyx shield itself measures 1 7/8" tall, is 1 5/8" across at the widest point, and 1/4" thick. The button hole design is 1" tall, 3/8" wide, and rests 1/4" above the surface of the onyx plaque. The oval glass locket frame on the back measures approximately 1 1/8" tall and 3/4" wide.

Condition: The overall condition of the locket/pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the onyx plaque or gold details. The glass locket frame is intact and very secure, as is the gold bail for hanging.
