A unique and very unusual diamond and sapphire pendant from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! The pendant, which is made of platinum-topped 14kt yellow gold, has a shield-like shape and cage-like design. The entire piece is etched in a fabulous floral motif and the wirework is absolutely magnificent. Three mine cut diamonds are set in a vertical row at the center, adding a wonderful sparkle! A row of blue sapphires lines the center, each stone individually bezel set in a horizontal row. The piece hangs from a complimentary bail, which also carries a complimentary shield shape. The piece has a unique feature that allows it to be transformed into a pendant carrying multiple colors inside. A hinge opens at the side, exposing an open space to place different colored fabrics or paper inside. As portrayed in the example photographs, each interior color transforms the gorgeous pendant into infinite possibilities, giving it unlimited versatility. It would make a very special addition to any collection!
Measurement: The pendant hangs 2 1/2" long, is a little less than 1" at the widest point and is 1/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the platinum-topped gold setting, and all of the diamonds and sapphires are intact. The pendant opens easily and stays securely closed.
