The Gorham Manufacturing Company is one of the largest American manufacturers of sterling and silverplate. Originally called Gorham Silver, the company was founded in Providence, Rhode Island in 1831 by Jabez Gorham, in partnership with Henry L. Webster. While the main products were spoons of coin silver, the company also made thimbles, combs, jewelry, and other small items. During the heyday of American silver manufacturing (1850-1940), Gorham was highly influential, even making pieces for many White House Administrations. Gorham Silver flourished until it was acquired in 1967, and it now operates as Gorham, a division under Lenox Corporation. 

A gorgeous perfume bottle by Gorham Silver from the Victorian (ca1875-1899) era! This sterling silver vessel is particularly large in size, and features a matching repousse design on both sides. The stunning design features rows of polished beads that swirl across the front, while a bold, feathery leaf motif extends towards the base. The natural darkened patina on the surface of the silver provides wonderful contrast and 3-dimensional depth to the design. A screw-on lid keeps the perfume secure inside, and a simple round bail is attached to the top, perfect for hanging from a favorite chain. Despite its substantial size, the hollow interior makes the bottle lightweight and comfortable to wear. Stamped on the bottom of the bottle are several hallmarks, including a lion, an anchor, and a G (indicating it dates from 1875-1899), along with "STERLING" and the bottle number 113. This fabulous Gorham Silver piece would make a gorgeous statement when worn, and be right at home in any antique collection! 

Measurements: The bottle measures approximately 4 1/4" long (including the bail at the top), and measures about 7/8" wide and is approximately 1/2" thick. 

Condition: The overall condition of the bottle is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling silver setting. The bottle topper screws on easily and securely.
